Terms
Last changed 9 October 2026
velometer is made by wileri. These terms cover every copy of it: the Mac app, the Windows app, the Linux app, and the velometer command for Mac, Linux and Windows. They are short on purpose.
Using it
velometer is free. You may install and use it on as many computers as you like, for personal or professional work, without paying and without an account.
Passing it on
You may copy and redistribute velometer, unmodified, to anyone and through any channel, including software stores and package repositories such as Flathub, mirrors, and your own organisation’s software catalogue. That includes repackaging it for a store’s format, as long as what runs is velometer as published here.
When you pass it on:
- keep these terms and the notices that come with it;
- do not sell velometer itself, or charge for it beyond what a store or repository normally charges for distributing free software;
- do not distribute a modified copy, or present something else as velometer.
Other people’s parts
velometer contains open-source components made by others. Each is covered by its own licence, and those licences come with every copy (in the app’s Notices). Nothing in these terms limits what those licences let you do with those components.
Your data
velometer reads what is already on your computer: the session logs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI write, and the git history of the folders you point it at. It keeps only times and counts, never the content of a conversation or of your code.
- Nothing it measures leaves your machines. There is no account, no server and no upload. Other computers you register are reached over your own
ssh, from your machine to theirs. - The apps make two kinds of request, and neither carries anything measured: a check for a newer version, and a once-a-day download of current token prices from
prices.velometer.dev, which sends nothing about you. Both can be switched off in the app; on Linux, updates are Flathub’s and follow its settings. Thevelometercommand makes no requests at all.
No warranty
velometer is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Its figures are estimates: attended hours are inferred from when prompts were typed, and costs are list prices applied to token counts, not a bill. Do not rely on them for anything where an error would cost you.
To the extent the law allows, wileri is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using velometer, or from being unable to use it.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did. A copy you already have keeps the terms it was published under, and a newer version comes with the terms current when it was published.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and of Canada that apply there.
